FEATURES & SETTINGS: BEYOND AUTO

Learn the tools and techniques to use your camera beyond automatic and program modes.

 

Take the mystery out of what all those dials, settings and menu items are on your camera and practice using them.

 

Topics covered include (but not limited to):

  • exposure and metering modes

  • lighting (natural, ambient,  and flash)

  • aperture and depth of field

  • shutter speeds and motion freeze/blur/pan

  • focusing modes

  • histograms

  • white balance

  • quick fixes when the camera gets it wrong

Bonus material is provided between each session to provide a session recap, supply additional resources, and offer at-home exercises to improve your photography.

INTRODUCTION TO
PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS

Photoshop Elements has everything you need to make your photos look amazing, turn them into beautiful creations, and share them with family and friends.

 

The work we’ll do on images in class will start with techniques to fix the most common photo problems and then we’ll explore some very cool tricks to enhance and transform your images.  Learn how to . . .

  • remove unwanted areas/items in your image

  • correct the exposure and color

  • convert to black and white

  • replace background/sky

  • add text and borders

  • merge two images

  • retouch faces

  • use artistic filters such as watercolor effects

  • and much, much more

Note, this course is for beginner photographers and those new to image editing. Only Quick and Guided Editing Modes will be explored. 

 

For more experienced photographers (shooting RAW images, for example) and more advanced image editing, check out the Advanced Photoshop Elements course.

 

Practice photos will be provided by the instructor.

 

Photoshop  Elements is a one-time purchase of less than $100.  You can obtain a free 30-day trial download of the latest version of this program (2021) from the Adobe.com website. If you have a recent version of the software that will suffice.

This advanced course only covers the Expert editing mode in Photoshop Elements. Advanced image editing techniques will be explored, such as . . .

  • advanced editing tools

  • edit images created in Quick & Guided modes

  • RAW image file processing

  • working with layers

  • layer masks

  • layer adjustments

  • advanced exposure correction

  • combining multiple images

  • filters, styles, graphics

Note, this course is for intermediate and more experienced photographers and those looking for more advanced image editing. A basic knowledge of Photoshop Elements is a plus.
